Following the U.S. attack and bombing of Venezuela in early 2026, a Venezuelan director activates a telematic device to intervene in the body of a North American performer. Taking Humberto Costantini’s poem ("Yanquis hijos de puta") as a score, the piece operates as a transatlantic interrogation and a scenic forensics on guilt and immunity. Masticar el Rezo inhabits the radical discomfort of the North-South asymmetry, dismantles technological distance, and transforms the safe space of a theater into a real-time census of survivors, all to ask: What happens when history demands that you hate and you do not want to sustain it?

J. René Guerra (Isla de Margarita, Venezuela) is an interdisciplinary artist, director, playwright, and screenwriter. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and is currently a fellow in the Confluencias Argentina 2026 regional program, supported by the Siemens Stiftung and Universidad de San Andrés, where she researches intersections between transdisciplinary experimentation in the live arts, multispecies knowledge, and situated territorial practices.
Based in Buenos Aires, her artistic practice operates within the friction of geopolitical asymmetry, memory technologies, and the formal deconstruction of the word. Her background is rooted in the research of physical actions and contemporary avant-gardes, including seminars with Odin Teatret and Thomas Richards (Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski).
She has developed international interdisciplinary projects in Germany, Spain, and the United States, notably Vorübergehende Lösungen… (Berlin) and the global artistic device C.R.I.S.T.A.L.E.S. (American University, Washington, D.C.). In Buenos Aires, she has written and directed projects with a strong material and object-based dimension, such as Extranjera Lenta and Plástico Cruel. Her short film ANTÖ won Best Picture, Best Ensemble Cast, and Best Foreign Film Short at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards, and was featured in the Official Selection of the Manchester International Latino & Hispanic Film Festival.
Her practice is grounded in a fierce commitment to political documentary, memory, and territorial practices. She collaborated on the production teams of Lola Arias (REAS) and on archival documentary series for Canal Encuentro (Teatro Abierto, Nietos de Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo), in addition to coordinating institutional and community-based artistic spaces in contexts of urban exclusion, such as Villa 20 and the 1-11-14 neighborhood, for the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. Her work El Cuervo was awarded Best Staging by the Círculo de Críticos de Caracas.
She is currently researching the linguistic conditioning of hate and the status of the immune body in the presence of an open microphone.
